SSC CGL Notification 2026 Overview

Candidates must strictly adhere to the timeline provided in the notification. The online portal will close at 23:00 hours on the last date.

SSC CGL Vacancy Details & Posts 2026

Tentative vacancies will be determined in due course. Updated vacancy position will be uploaded on the website of the Commission. The examination is held for multiple prestigious posts across various Ministries:

• Pay Level-8 (Rs 47600 to 151100): Assistant Audit Officer (AAO), Assistant Accounts Officer.
• Pay Level-7 (Rs 44900 to 142400): Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in CSS, IB, Railway, MEA; Inspector of Income Tax; Inspector (CGST & Central Excise); Inspector (Preventive Officer/Examiner); Sub Inspector (CBI).
• Pay Level-6 (Rs 35400 to 112400): Assistant/Superintendent, Divisional Accountant, Sub Inspector (NIA), Junior Statistical Officer (JSO).
• Pay Level-5 (Rs 29200 to 92300): Auditor, Accountant, Junior Accountant.
• Pay Level-4 (Rs 25500 to 81100): Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, Senior Secretariat Assistant/UDC, Tax Assistant, Sub-Inspector (Narcotics).

Eligibility Criteria & Age Limit

1. Age Limit

The age limit varies depending on the specific post applied for. The crucial date for age reckoning will be clearly defined in the detailed notification (usually 1st August of the exam year).

• Group C Posts (Auditor, TA, UDC): 18 to 27 Years
• Group B Posts (Inspector, ASO): 18 to 30 Years / 20 to 30 Years
• Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): Up to 32 Years

Age Relaxation: Standard upper age limit relaxation applies: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD (UR), and extended relaxations for Ex-Servicemen as per Govt. rules.

2. Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent. Special requirements apply for certain posts:

• General Posts: Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
• Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): Bachelor’s Degree with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level; OR Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
• Statistical Investigator Grade-II: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects (must have studied Statistics in all three years of graduation).

Application Fees

Candidates must pay the application fee online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit cards.

• Fee Payable: Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only)
• Exemptions: Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee.

Selection Process

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the CGL examination in two main tiers:

1. Tier-I: Computer Based Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type). This tier is mandatory for all candidates and serves as a screening test.
2. Tier-II: Computer Based Examination consisting of multiple papers (Paper-I is compulsory for all posts; Paper-II for JSO; Paper-III for AAO). It also includes a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) module.
3. Document Verification: Post the result of Tier-II, final Document Verification and Medical Examination will be conducted by the respective User Departments/Organizations.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2026 (Tier-I)

The Tier-I Examination will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Comprehension.

Note: There will be a negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer in Tier-I. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.

How to Apply Online for SSC CGL 2026?

Applications must be submitted only in online mode at the newly launched website of SSC Headquarters. Follow the steps below:

1. Visit the new official SSC website: ssc.gov.in.
2. Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) carefully on the new portal. Your old registration from ssc.nic.in will not work.
3. Log in using your Registration Number and Password. Click on “Apply” under the “Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026” section.
4. Fill in the required educational qualifications, exam center preferences, and verify your details.
5. Live Photo Capture: As per new SSC rules, candidates must capture a live photograph through a webcam or mobile camera. Ensure plain background and proper lighting. Upload a scanned signature as well.
6. Pay the application fee of Rs. 100/- (if applicable) through online payment methods.
7. Review your application using the preview option and finally submit it before 22 June 2026 (23:00 hours). Take a printout for future reference.
