SSB Constable Recruitment 2026: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has released an official advertisement to recruit eligible candidates for the posts of Constable (Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter, and Nursing Orderly). The Directorate General Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has published Notice No. 418/RC/SSB/OA/2023/Vol-II/1709. The SSB Constable Recruitment 2026 drive is being conducted to fill numerous Group-‘C’ Non-Gazetted (Combatised) vacancies across various trades. The SSB Constable Apply Online 2026 window is open from 21st March 2026 to 20th April 2026. Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India or outside the territory of India.

This recruitment provides an excellent opportunity for candidates with 10th pass qualifications along with relevant Trade Experience/ITI/Driving License to secure a prestigious Group C job in a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Salary Structure

All the above Constable posts carry a Pay Scale of Level-3 (Rs. 21,700 – 69,100) in the Pay Matrix as per the 7th CPC. Candidates will also receive Dearness Allowance, Ration Money Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other allowances as admissible in SSB from time to time.

Eligibility Criteria for SSB Constable Tradesman

Candidates must carefully ensure they possess the necessary educational qualifications, trade experience, and fall within the required age bracket before the closing date.

1. Age Limit (as on 20.04.2026)

• Constable (Driver): 21 to 27 years.
• Constable (Veterinary): 18 to 25 years.
• Constable (Other Tradesmen): 18 to 23 years (Carpenter, Waiter, Washerman, Barber, Tailor, Cobbler, Water Carrier, Gardener, Nursing Orderly).
• Relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and 3 years after deduction of military service for Ex-Servicemen.

2. Educational & Professional Qualifications

• Constable (Driver): Matriculation (10th Pass) or equivalent AND must possess a valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License.
• Constable (Veterinary): 10th or Matriculation Examination pass with Science as the main subject AND one year experience in treatment of different species of animals in a recognized Veterinary Hospital.
• Constable (Tradesmen & Others): Matriculation or equivalent AND Two years work experience in the respective trade OR One year certificate course from a recognized Industrial Training Institute (ITI) with at least one year experience in the trade OR Two years Diploma from a recognized ITI in the trade.

The examination fee must be paid online via net-banking/ credit card/ debit card/UPI. It is Non-Refundable.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern

The selection process for the SSB Constable (Tradesman) posts will involve Physical Tests (PET/PST), a Written Examination, a Trade Test, Document Verification (DV), and a Detailed Medical Examination (DME).

Phase I: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)

PET (Physical Efficiency Test):

• Male: 4.8 Kms race in 24 Minutes
• Female: 2.4 Kms race in 18 Minutes

PST (Physical Standard Test) for All Posts:

Phase II: Written Examination (Computer Based Test)

Candidates qualifying in the PST will appear for the Written Examination.

• Common Entrance Test (Paper-I): 2 hours duration, 100 marks, consisting of 100 multiple choice objective type questions.
• Subjects: General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, General English/General Hindi.
• Minimum Qualifying Marks: 50% for Gen, EWS, OBC & Ex-SM. 45% for SC and ST.

Phase III: Trade Test

Candidates who qualify in the Written Exam will be called for a Trade Test (Skill Test) in their respective applied trades. The Trade Test is qualifying in nature, but scoring the minimum required marks is mandatory to proceed to the Document Verification stage.
