PM Internship Scheme 2024: The Indian government’s “Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme” aims to provide 1 crore internship opportunities in top 500 companies over five years, starting with a pilot project for FY 2024-25. The pilot targets 1.25 lakh internships across diverse sectors.
Eligibility: Indian youth aged 21-24 who are unemployed and not engaged in full-time education (online/distance learning allowed) can apply. Exclusions apply for candidates with advanced degrees or high-income family backgrounds.
The qualifications for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme – Pilot Project are as follows:
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age:
- Applicants must be aged between 21 and 24 years as of the last date of application submission.
- Education:
- Eligible candidates must have completed one of the following:
- High School
- Higher Secondary School
- ITI Certificate
- Diploma from a Polytechnic Institute
- Undergraduate degree such as BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
- Eligible candidates must have completed one of the following:
- Employment and Education Status:
- Applicants must not be:
- Employed full-time.
- Enrolled in full-time education. (Online or distance learning programs are permitted.)
- Applicants must not be:
Ineligibility Criteria:
The following groups are excluded from the internship:
- Educational Background:
- Graduates from prestigious institutions like IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, and IIITs.
- Individuals with higher qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any master’s or higher degrees.
- Government Schemes:
- Those undergoing skill development, apprenticeship, internship, or student training programs under central/state government schemes.
- Applicants who have already completed apprenticeship or training under schemes like the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
- Family Income and Employment:
- Candidates whose family income exceeds ₹8 lakh for FY 2023-24.
- If any family member is a permanent/regular government employee.
Note: “Family” includes self, parents, and spouse. A government employee refers to permanent/regular employees of central/state governments, PSUs, local bodies, etc., but excludes contractual employees.
Internship Duration: A 12-month program where at least half the time must be spent on real-world job experiences.
Support and Benefits:
- Monthly financial assistance of ₹5,000 (₹500 from the company, ₹4,500 from the government via DBT).
- One-time grant of ₹6,000 for incidentals.
- Insurance coverage under key government schemes.
Company Participation: Top 500 companies are identified based on their CSR expenditure. Companies can offer internships directly or through tie-ups within their supply chain.
How to Applying for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme:
Visit the Official Portal: Go to the PM Internship Scheme Portal developed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Register Yourself:
- Use Aadhaar-based authentication or eKYC to create an account.
- Provide your personal details, including name, address, and educational qualifications.
- Upload necessary documents like proof of education and certifications (if any).
Profile Creation:
- Fill in all required details on the portal.
- A resume will be automatically generated based on the information you provide.
Browse Internship Opportunities:
- Use the portal’s browsing feature to explore internships by sector, location, functional role, and other preferences.
- You can apply for up to five internships at a time.
Apply for Internships:
- Select the internships that match your interests and qualifications.
- Submit your applications directly through the portal.
Shortlisting Process:
- The portal will shortlist candidates based on preferences and eligibility.
- If shortlisted, your profile will be forwarded to the respective companies.
Selection by Companies:
- Companies will review shortlisted profiles and make internship offers.
- If selected, you’ll receive an offer through the portal.
Accept the Offer:
- Log in to the portal to accept the internship offer.
- Once accepted, an Internship Document will be generated outlining the details of your internship.
Start Your Internship:
- Join the internship as per the company’s guidelines.
- Upon joining, you’ll receive a one-time grant of ₹6,000 for incidentals via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Completion and Certification:
- After successfully completing the internship, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion from the company.
Important Dates for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme – Pilot Project (FY 2024-25)
- Scheme Announcement: July 23, 2024, during the Union Budget speech.
- Launch of Pilot Project: October 3, 2024.
- Application Start Date: October 3, 2024.
- Shortlisting and Selection Start Date: April 1, 2025.
- Extended Application Deadline: April 15, 2025.
