India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: The Department of Posts (India Post) under the Ministry of Communications has released Notification No. 17-37/2025-GDS (Pt.I) for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-I, January 2026. This is a massive recruitment drive to fill vacancies for the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks across various postal circles in India.
This recruitment does not involve any written examination. Selection is based purely on the merit list generated from 10th Class (Secondary School Examination) marks. Interested candidates can apply online starting from 28th January 2026 through the official portal.

4. Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility norms as of the notification date:
Educational Qualification
- Secondary School Examination pass certificate of 10th standard having passed in Mathematics and English (having been studied as compulsory or elective subjects) conducted by any recognized Board of School Education in India.
- Knowledge of Local Language: The candidate should have studied the local language at least up to 10th standard (as compulsory or elective subject).
- Other Qualifications: Knowledge of Cycling, Knowledge of Computer, and Adequate means of livelihood.
Age Limit (As on 28.01.2026):
- Minimum Age: 18 Years
- Maximum Age: 40 Years
- Relaxation:
- SC/ST: 5 Years
- OBC: 3 Years
- EWS: No Relaxation
- PwD: 10 Years (PwD+OBC: 13 Years, PwD+SC/ST: 15 Years)

6. Selection Process
The selection process for GDS posts is automated and merit-based:
- System Generated Merit List: A merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination (10th standard) aggregated to percentage to the accuracy of 4 decimals.
- No Weightage for Higher Qualification: Passing 10th class is the only criteria. No weightage will be given for higher educational qualifications.
- Grades to Marks: For boards giving grades/points, they will be converted to marks using a multiplication factor (e.g., Grade Point 10 = 9.5 x 10).
7. How to Apply Online
Visit https://indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement and click on ‘Registration’. Enter basic details to generate a Registration Number.
Pay the fee of ₹100/- (if applicable) through online mode. Female candidates, SC/ST candidates, PwD candidates, and Transwomen candidates are exempted from fees.
Log in with the Registration Number and fill the application. Upload recent photograph and signature in JPG/JPEG format.
Select the Circle and submit preferences for the posts/divisions. A candidate can select only one Division for submission of his/her preferences.
Take a printout of the submitted application form for future reference. Do NOT send any hard copy.
