RRB ALP Vacancy Details 2026

Eligibility Criteria & Age Limit

1. Age Limit

  • Standard Age Limit: 18 to 30 years (As on the crucial date mentioned in the CEN).

  • Note: Degree in Engineering disciplines as mentioned above are eligible in lieu of a Diploma.

Strict Medical & Vision Standards (A-1)

The Assistant Loco Pilot post falls under a safety-critical category. Candidates must strictly pass the A-1 medical standards. Candidates wearing glasses or those who have undergone laser surgery are strictly not eligible to apply for this post.

Important A-1 Medical Vision Standards

  • Distant Vision: Without glasses 6/6, 6/6 in both eyes (with fogging test, without +2D).
  • Near Vision: Sn. 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
  • Other Tests: Must pass tests for Color Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, and Mesopic Vision.
  • Surgery constraints: NO refractive surgery (Lasik, etc.) performed. Candidates must submit a specialized medical certificate from an Eye Specialist during DV.

The application fee must be paid online. A major portion of the fee will be refunded to candidates who appear for the CBT-1 exam.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern

The recruitment process consists of 5 rigorous stages:

  1. First Stage CBT (CBT-1): Screening exam consisting of 75 questions in 60 minutes (Maths, Mental Ability, General Science, General Awareness).
  2. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Divided into Part A (Maths, Basic Science & Engineering, Reasoning – 100 questions, 90 minutes) and Part B (Relevant Trade Subject – 75 questions, 60 minutes). Part B is qualifying in nature.
  3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Only for candidates qualifying CBT-2. Candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries.
  4. Document Verification (DV): Checking of educational, medical, and caste certificates.
  5. Medical Examination (ME): Final clearance of the A-1 medical fitness test.

*Note: There is a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for wrong answers in CBT-1 and CBT-2. There will not be negative marking in the CBAT.
